Holga Infrared #10
This photo is hot! Share it!
One second infrared exposure of a scene at Roger Williams State Park in Providence, RI. I have always admired the look of IR photography and knew I had to get my hands on some film and try it in my Holga. Most of the photos on my 120 roll came out very nice, but I think I like this scene the best.
When I scanned the roll with the Digital ICE setting on, the images came out all posterized. My guess is that the software was trying to "clean up" all of the bright foliage, thinking it was dust. It was a real pain to manually clean up all the dust using CS3. Examine the photo closely and you can see all the dust & scratches I missed. I didn't realize how much I depend on my scanner's dust removal!
To see how I modified my Holga for IR photography, check out this photo. I also purchased some Kodak EIR color infrared film that I will be shooting with soon. Be on the lookout for a feature on 15x100 about plastic cameras where I will be sure to go into greater detail about Holga IR photography.
You can purchase selected photos of mine at mylatehope.imagekind.com.
Created using my new Holga 120N with Efke IR820 B&W Infrared film. Photo scanned with an Epson Perfection V700. No digital manipulation other than dust & scratch removal.

great shot, paul. i could gaze upon this all day long. and your explanation was very helpful. i have a holga and now i want to run out and buy IR film. also, the info about scanners is good; since i always shoot digital, i don't have a scanner.

I was eager to see the results and enjoy your experimentation to find creative images. Look forward to more Paul. I like the high contrast effect here with the cotton white trees contrasting the river scene.

The crazy scanner image sounds intreaging. This image you got from your Holga is fantastic and getting it infrared is a great idea. I can't wait to start playing around with some 120 : )
