Florida Forest Spider

So there you are just hiking along, minding your own business when wham! you run into what feels like fishing line and see one of these crawling around the bill of your cap! That's when you start doing the wild heebie-jeebie dance. This spider has a two inch body and legspan of about four inches.

Lol Dennis! I hope I never run into a spider web with one of these in it. Great shot but creepy looking spider. Looks like he could be deadly!

thanks Maureen and Lynn! i can usually eliminate the chance of running into one (literally) by breaking off a dead Cabbage Palm Branch (light but strong and long) and waving it around in front of me while i hike.

thanks Michael! at least without a hat, they won't escape your notice. i actually watched a friend walk about 200 yds with one on top of his cowboy hat, not realizing it was there. he was pretty pissed when he found out i didn't tell him.
