This shot was taken in Luoyang, China. Her home was placed literally underground as it was excavated. Sadly, this proud lady suffered an ancient cruel practice: foot binding. Her feet remained amazingly small because they were bounded in her childhood in order to avoid their normal development. Despite she seemed not to have any complex about her feet size, I chose not to shoot them as a sign of respect.

She is beauty incarnate, from within her soul all the way out towards that smiling face. This lady just exudes a certain kind of nostalgia, her life is mapped upon her face emitting a pride few of us ever will be this proud 2 wear. This is truly a really great portrait David.
