Watching my children sleep, breathing quietly and safely has always grounded me and kept me in check as a mother.
This is my "little" one, the last I'll birth. She sleeps alone. Her two older sisters share a room. So she usually gets me to fall asleep, or at least stay until she falls asleep, every night. I used to worry about this spoiling her. But I have found it to be an important, reflective time of our day. It is usually the only time we have alone together following school, work, and dinner. It is a time for me to unwind with her. We say prayers, sing "Silent Night" (all year long) together, talk and then I watch her drift safely and soundly off. Many times I fall asleep too, but most times I just lie there and listen to her quiet breaths and feel her safe calmness and find myself self-meditating and reflecting on my life and it's importance to her and my other two children.
