I found this sign at Clingman's Dome, the highest point in the Smokey Mountains, on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. It was an amusing surprise next to the predictable signs with information about the area and it's history. I don't know how it came to be here, but I quite enjoyed it. There's something poetic about a reminder of free speech set against a vast backdrop of this country's land.

Something poetic... and something quite cynic indeed, like "dudes, if you want to make use of free speech do it here where nobody will give a sh... about it!".

Exactly. It seemed unnecessary. Although, my cousin pointed out that it might have something to do with issues surrounding Cherokee land and anything that might have come up in the past.
