Is this how she sees herself? Or how she wishes to be seen by you? I cover half her face, the left half in the shadows, and see despair or disappointment on the right in soft focus: she accepts me even as she wishes I might be different. (Brave? Dependable? Affectionate?) But when I cover her right eye and look into her shadows, I see a sharp threat: maybe she wants to know why I look, or maybe she wants me to know that I have been seen? There are two portraits here, and if I look long enough at this photo I will see much more complexity, multiplicity. It's a shot to swim in, even if you get hurt. Cool picture!
