Genet gets gassed
Covering the Democratic convention in Chicago for Esquire magazine in 1968, the French poet, playwright and novelist Jean Genet was among thousands teargassed by Chicago police in Lincoln park. He and others retreated to a hotel across the street, where he got his eyes washed out by volunteers.
