The North American Pond Owl

(Athene cunicularia aquinas)

Found in the Pacific Northwest and northern Middle West regions of America, this is the only known species of aquatic owl. Unique not only in it's chosen habitat but also in it's hunting methods. It feeds almost entirely on fish and amphibians which are caught by swimming through the water and at times diving up to two meters below the surface. The Pond Owl is also a very territorial creature. A single male Pond Owl will dominate an entire body of water, viciously attacking any other male that dare encroach on it's territory.
