Globes created by Vicenzo Coronelli between 1681 and 1683. Mr Coronelli was commissioned by the cardinal d'Estrées to produce these two globes, one of the earth, the other of the heavens, for king Louis XIV. These globes have a 384cm diameter and weight 2 tons. They represent the whole geographic and cosmographic knowledge in the late 17th century.
