One of my favorite household items - my great, great grandmother's iron candleholder. As the candle burns down, the base can be spiraled up for more candle-burning pleasure.

J. - I use it a LOT and I'm constantly trying to get rid of the wax buildup. I thought I did a good job until I took the shot - what looks like pieces of dirt or dust are little wax particles. I oil it to keep it from rusting out. So you weren't far off on the description.

Cool Shot. They are called courting candles.
The story was, You must court the lady for as long as it took to burn the candle to the bottom. Early to mid 1800's -
