A Sacred Lotus at it's finest
The red or pink lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is the national flower of India, and is commonly known as the Indian lotus or sacred lotus. It is often seen in pictographic representations of deities. Found in southern Asia, this lotus flower was introduced into Egypt about 2,500 years ago but is no longer found in the Nile region. Its flowers are usually found on thick stems rising several centimeters above the water. The flowers of the red lotus are considered sacred by the Buddhists of India, Tibet, and China. Almost all parts of the plant are used in Asian cooking. From: http://www.lotusflowermeaning.com/types.htm
