Breakthroughs don’t always happen all at once. Sometimes it takes hundreds of little steps. This is my brother Ryan visiting me in the hospital at the National Institutes of Health. I am participating in a drug trial hoping to make a breakthrough in the treatment of the pulmonary fibrosis associated with Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome. Ryan spends many an evening with me “hanging out.” We think of it not as a hospital, but as a “hotel with hospital beds.” We're doing our part for the cure.
