The heat and light of a candle are attributes that are classic for an infrared study. Surround the lens with something to reflect some of the heat and light and give the source of illumination a place for the eye to go, and lead to that light at the end of the tunnel. The infrared can be created by lens filter, or by infrared sensitive film (if that is available). Otherwise, it can be simulated by image manipulation in digital camera and / or software to filter out and leave the infrared effect. In this case the latter was found to be most effective. Imagine the days past of the often messy and long-winded darkroom methods that film entailed.
