Special Ghost Town

♫ This town, is coming like a ghost town♬

Lead in line from The Specials.

I know I'm British and live a long way from here, but there is no doubt that one of my most favourite places on the planet is Bodie Ghost Town, high up in the Sierra Nevadas, California.
It lies in a state of arrested decay, in a way that is beyond words. The total abandonment of the place is beyond explanation.
On my trip here last year I spent days and nights, sleeping rough trying to imagine what it was like for the early pioneers.
How tough life must have been, and how easy death was to find so many and so young.
If you have never experienced it, try, you must.
You won't find rest stations or Starbucks, no flushing loos, but an experience beyond words.

the mood set by your tones, pov & compo are amazing Gary, was just @ Carsta's Chevy pic then this and find myself lost in thought with your narrative, still today not all of us have access to highspeed/broadband & many of the other bells & whistles many take advantage of daily. And many of those same people don't want a Starbucks or Foot Locker on every corner. Still they are wealthy with something many will never know today. Your pic & words make me contemplate what have here. We are blessed. Also deep in thought about pioneers and what have we lost since that time/what have we gained?! Hmmm, I'm falling to the Laura Ingall's Wilder side of things at the moment? (Oh and yes, the loo does flushes now!) ;-)

You know this is a ghost town, because I thought I was here once. Actually, I was and I did and now my comment is gone. Well, the space here gives that ole building a grand feeling. It's a great perspective.
