Frog in the Dog's Water
Or maybe he's a toad, technically. He has the bulgy lumps behind his head and rough skin which is a toady characteristic, but likes to hang around in water all day which is froggy. You tell me. Around here it depends who you ask; one person's toad is another guy's frog.
I usually have a few of these critters living in the house. Usually only see them in the evenings as they leave their hidey holes and head outside to eat some bugs, or in the dawn's early light as they're returning from a good night of hunting. This guy took up residence in Zeze the Wonderdog's water bowl. He was there all day sometimes, and even accustomed himself to having a couple liters of fresh water poured over him in the morning. At first he'd glare up at me and hop out of the bowl, then hop right back in after things settled down. After a while he just pretended I was a giant rainstorm and stayed put. Zeze paid him no mind either. She seemed to acquire a natural instinct to ignore them once she left puppyhood, which is a good thing because these guys are poisonous if you lick 'em. And no, I know what you're thinking, you can't get high off them. At least I didn't. Doh!
I captured a few shots one morning with my little Canon A630 in macro and was amazed as he let me get the lens within an inch of his eyeball. I think he sleeps with his eyes open and wasn't actually paying any attention to me. I was pretty impressed what you can do these days with a standard point and shoot.
