Decommissioned
I love finding urban abandonment. This photo was taken inside a military optics engineering building where submarine periscopes, among other things, were developed. Glass curtain walls and ceiling in a portion of the building bring in wonderful light. The tattered white material on the pipes is intended to contain asbestos. Spray paint markings on the wall indicate piping that has been removed; the markings on the items indicate that they contain no radioactive contamination. This building was very active during World War II and now it is home primarily to seagulls and radioactive waste containers awaiting shipment to a disposal site.
