Taken in the Spring of 2003.
This photo has inspired hundreds of other octopus themed pictures. I should know, I was very protective of the idea for this photo and searched everywhere to see if it had been done.
This photo almost never happened. At the time, I was too worried that it would show too much of my Edward Weston influences, so I barely spent less than five or so seconds composing the shot. Shortly after, a storm came in and chased us off the beach and back to the car.
