It's the steam
A scan from a slide I took quite a few years ago. A bit grainy due to the fast speed I had to shoot at to get the steam effect I wanted.
A mate is a fireman for tourist steam trains. This shot taken while he was fiddling about doing whatever needs to be done to these magnificent machines. Couldn't resist this with the juxtaposition of the steam and clouds in the background. Location: Newport railyards a few kilometres out of Melbourne.

Thank you Anna. It was handy havin' me mate in the cabin. And to be honest, it wasn't until after he let loose with all that steam that I noticed the nice relationship with the clouds on the horizon.
