A female Monarch butterfly rests on a Spotted Lily after feeding itself on nectar. I was lucky enough to have calm winds on a bright day and was able to catch the butterfly momentarily still
at f16/250sec with my Canon 5D digital SLR. The colors in the original file were actually a bit more intense than the upload appears to me. Still I didn't want to break any rules by cranking up the saturation in hopes it would appear more accurate in the upload. Even saving for web use didn't compensate for saturation loss. Still, the photo is quite exquisite and colorful so I'm hoping it's simple beauty and vibrancy comes across to the judges. Even at f16 the focal plane was virtually not much either in front of or behind the butterfly so non-critical components quickly blur which helps to emphasize the most aesthetic components of the shot.
