Red Spindle
Here is my first attempt at catching the movement of a windmill.
Any suggestions on how to set my shutter speed, etc. would be great.

great shot, Amanda, maybe just slow the speed down a little bit more, but this looks really nice.

This is great Amanda. The secret with getting the shutter speed is to slow down the whole image and fool the camera into exposing for darkness. Manually is the best. Two things to try, possibly together if it's always very bright. Use a small aperture, so that you need a longer shutter speed. Depending on speed of mill, less that 1/30 for sure. If it was me I'd use maybe a couple of ND grads and shoot from a tripod. Try around 1/10 of a sec down to 1 sec and see how it goes. Good luck xx

Hip, hip hooray! Its looking pretty good! I agree w/ Gary on his shutter speed execution; The windier the day, the easier its going to be to capture the whirl, you've many factors playing; this one's very sharp and I like the red too!

Thanks everyone. I have to admit I did not use a tripod for this one because I forgot it out the house. I was quite shocked to see how sharp the picture turned out. I will try all the suggestions, And it is always windy here so I am excitied to get back out and try.
