Editing makes a great image. As to your story it's provocative and interesting. One thing everyone forgets with both of the runners is that they are both super wealthy people who have no concept of real life. Neither one has had to struggle home from the shops carrying bags. Fought their way onto a bus or train. Neither has looked after sick relatives or had families squeezed into small houses. And yet both preach as to what they will do and what they know. In the big scheme of things who ever wins, there will still be people living in cardboard boxes, there will still be people getting shot for over minor thefts. My government will applaud the winner and promise to do what they can and we will continue to see body bags coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. Although I'm for Obama, I'm cynical to think very little will change, but it would be nice to be proved wrong.

i love the shot and i am intruiged by your proposal, as an Irishman I find your democracy both interesting and confusing, It appears to me as if Mr. Cain is jsut rubbing his hands with glee as the Democrats tear themselves apart and he presents himself as a democratic republican. Interesting times ahead methinks. lovely piece.

Nicely stated personal post... it does seem paradoxical (though perhaps not in America) that clinton would find friends among the so-called blue-collar contingency. in reality, obama is the candidate that experienced an impoverished childhood. he exemplifies a horatio alger paradigm in a way that clinton can only dream (so as to exploit it, one must presume). it really is a shame that she would, as you elucidated, invoke race when, as a woman, she is susceptible to invocations of sexism. regardless of the outcome, the Democratic Party will see a First at the DNC. what a pity that clinton would soil it with her cheap pandering! ...too blinded by empty ambition to realize it is just another turn of the same wheel that kept women out of the voting booths for a century in a half.

Glenn, the photo is beautiful, interesting, wild, colorful and makes my eyes look very closely so as not to miss any part of it. I don't "do" politics at all and never have. So I don't know about what you speak in the story. Ive been yelled at, spit on, chased, etc by people approaching me about voting when I say, "Im not registered, and I dont vote." They become enraged. I say, "Isn't it my choice? As it is your choice to vote?" Anyway, long story short, I love the photo, dont understand the story, and it's great to see a new post from you as always. xo

As a Lebanese arab atheist.. for us it is all the same.. same shit different face.. it is so clear for us that it is not the president of the united states of america who decides on the country's external political agenda..it is a lobby.. a higher force.. with no face.. and all are going to be as bad and as unfair as ever.. they will all try to interfere with our politics and invade our countries militarly (Iraq and Afghanistan) economically (UAE and other gulf countries) Influentialy (Qatar and Lebanon) and Lobbying (against Syria)
why would i care to support any of the 3 ...
the only reason that make me have a soft spot for Obama is because he is Black...
him running for presidency blew the cover of the fake american democracy and freedom that are promoted, via hollywood and CNN, to the world as the best model to b followed.
The "American Dream" is falling apart..
this is the way we see it from this side of the planet...
come out of ur bubble
look at ur country from outside..
try to c what other's c
trace the increasing hate in the world for u..
and
please
do something about it

Amen Glenn - Your essay hits it square on in my opinion. Bob Herbert summed it pretty good in his NYT column a couple of days ago. And...incredible photo as well. I'll be spending to time with it.

Great article, one I wholeheartedly agree with. I didn't have much respect for Hillary before, now I have even less. (I was in South Carolina with Bill made his Jesse Jackson comment - that did it for me) The media is picking up on it, this has been happening for months.

I came over to write a comment and commend your writings..However..everything I was going to say has been said by Gary..I think we are all fooling ourselves if we believe any politician can truly understand or empathize with whats really going on in this country, with the true working middle class ( or the common folk) let alone relate to what it is to struggle with ordinary life at this point...I hate to be negative, but I don't think there is alot of hope for things ever to turn around;medical care or the insurance that most of us can't afford, the homeless and poverty, the rediculous rate at which gas prices are exploding..Does anyone think any politician worries about buying gas or tries to figure out if they will have enough left over for food or other essentials after filling the tank just to go to work..Not on your life..So like Mr. Fudge put it..I hope I am wrong..but every nite I hear about the latest young man or woman to die in Irag and I wonder why it has to be this way..The answer is ..because no one has come along who will truly try to make a change.
Now I will get off my soap box..
Excellent contribution Glenn... -

Martin Luther King what a wonderful Christian! This is the highlight for me along with the wonderful work you did on Hillary's Whitehouse Blues.

For what it's worth a few thoughts come to mind. Reminds me of the depression as a little girl. I feel Hillary really wasn't right to be president. The price of living is going up and jobs can not pay Americans the cost of living any more. The rich has gotten away with murder. This time produce and all energy related companies are on the Crude oil band wagon.
