Into the Light
This was shot in an old cemetery that I think was the first in this city. The larger part of it was the Catholic area with a smaller area for the Chinese community. Reading the headstones, one couldn't help but feel incredible respect for those who lie there. The immigrants who settled this area - hardworking, simple people, some of whom never celebrated a birthday, either because they didn't know when they were born (many had no birthdates) or because they were victims of a world not yet able to save it's infants from disease or childbirth complications -- all had a simple faith. Faith that God would care for them, do his will as he saw fit, welcome them when their time here was done. I doubt they could imagine the society that exists today, where the single, simple, sacred, eternal remembrance of a loved one's time among us could be destroyed or defaced by an incredibly disrespectful act of vandalism.
I suspect they had a lot more faith in humanity than I do.
