- Secret inner city skate spot -

My journey began one afternoon. Driving in a not so great party of Long Beach I saw a kid walking with his skateboard. I decided to pullover and park because I noticed a cool looking couch that I wanted to shoot a photo of. Why not, I asked the kid where is favorite place to skate in the area was and here threw a glance and smile at me. He motioned for me to follow him and we soon began to walk a few blocks.

I followed closely behind him and he stopped in his tracks. I looked at him curiously. He soon raised his arm in a fluid motion and pointed at a hole in a fence. "Go through there and you'll find it". I chuckled and began to make some sort of excuse how I am too old and probably to big to fit through alittle hole like that. The kid shrugged his shoulders. I thought to myself, "crap, why not!" Camera bag first, one leg second, the rest of my body third. From the other side of the fence I turned back and thanked him, he was already walking away. He blurted out as he left, "oh yeah, if the cops come, don't forget to run". My jaw dropped open.

I soon found myself walking a long distance towards the sound of skating, a disinguishable sound that is hard to not recognize as wood poundning against concrete. I soon found myself immersed amongst teenage boys and girls of all shapes and sizes. This is the ultimate street skate spot. This is their favorite hangout!
