Back Streets of India

Walking back along a dust road smack dab in the middle of India, one may never notice a quaint little English school half a kilometer away on a rickety road studded with potholes. At the back of this road, you will reach this small, little school started by missionaries many years ago.

The clothing is truly representational of their founders: a modern western style clothing has influenced their every day dress for school. Never complaining, they embrace this clothing as a gift. It is something that gives them encouragement and a desire to succeed. We are often told to dress for success. That is what they think they are doing. By dressing like those who speak English, they are putting themselves in a position to learn. All the boys wear a tie and commonly wear shorts, sometimes considered children's clothing. During the winter months, many will don a sweater to keep the "chilly" 20 degrees C at bay. The red symbolic of passion and desire to fulfill their desires and brown to embrace their roots in a changing world. Most of all, these boys want to play football.
