Kaua'i (2008)
The tricky thing about visiting Kaua'i (or any Hawaiian island for that matter) is that the weather quickly changes. We stayed in Princeville during our last visit which is in the north shore, the "wetter" side of the island. We had to always bring rain gear with us, regardless of the forecast. On the bright side, if it is raining, chances are it'll clear up in an hour, sometimes less than that.
Storms bring fascinating sky conditions and dramatic lighting. Kaua'i had just been bombarded with floodings the week before we visited and roads had been closed.
I took this shot just after a trailing storm passed and rain stopped pouring down at the town of Hanalei.
I really have to give kudos to my husband and 7 month old son for being such troopers waiting on clearer weather with me. I only wished I had captured this with a wide angle lens. My husband beat me to it.

I just keep coming back to this stunning picture! Not only am I amazed at its beauty, but I think you should give some serious consideration to staying at home, focusing on your photography (a little bambino) and market you shots to tourism councils and such.

I was born in Honolulu so i loved seeing this photo. I think the great thing about Hawaii is its really not hard to take a good picture, aside from the rain you speak of. But its called "liquid sunshine," as many a time that it will rain there's not actually a cloud in the sky. Just a little mist on a hot day. Thanks for reminding me of a little piece of home
