Insectopia
This is a common dragonfly in the Northern Territory of Australia. Seen in abundance during the change of seasons between monsoon and dry season. It is a magical time of year in the Top End of Australia.
This particular dragonfly watched my every move as I composed my camera, I was in absolute awe at his detail and found myself holding my breath as I focused just inches away. I felt we shared an understanding between human and creature for a fleeting moment in time.
Location details: My backyard, Humpty Doo, Northern Territory, Australia.
Image details: Hand-held Canon macro 100mm

Well...I’d just like to say thank-you to this little guy that stayed still long enough for me to compose this shot -he watched my every move & I was too scared to breathe! Hehe -Jules -

Wonderful Macro shot ... I am considering a 100mm for my canon 40d ... have you used 180mm ? any comments appreciated!

Jules Campbell said (2 Oct 2008):
Thanks for everyone's wonderful feedback!! woohoo!!
And Raakesh the 100mm far out ways the 180mm for sure!! The 180 big and bulky- I didn't like it at all. You'll never regret getting the 100mm its beautiful and so so close to an 'L' series lens. -
