A few years back, while living in Ventura, CA, I awoke one November morning to the smell of smoke. When I opened the blinds to investigate, I was startled to find my view completely blocked by a yellowish haze. Immediately, I grabbed my camera and some clothes before heading out the door to locate the source. Two houses away, just around the corner, the hillside of the canyon was on ablaze. The flames had worked their way outward along several forks of a canyon that ran along the Northeastern edge of the city. Fortunately, thanks to the quick response and diligent efforts of the firefighters on the scene, no one was seriously injured and no homes were lost during this particular brushfire.

This was the last shot I took that morning.
