When did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison?

Oh my god ....imagine the picture with just the girl in white jacjet and the beggar....mindblowing....sorry buddy....this crop/frame just jumps at you

Thanks for your thoughts, Ritayan. I did struggle with the decision of whether to crop the photo in the way you suggested. But at the end, I did not want the photo to be of this ONE girl's decision to ignore the man asking for help. I didn't want this to be a criticism of an individual but instead wanted to be a record of our collective refusal. Besides, I thought a photo that included all the people in the original viewframe would ultimately the more accurate photo.

I respect your choice but I think collectivism can be represented very well by a single person...in my case the girl would have been symbolic of the society...but i totally agree with not wanting to crop a picture ...it loses the flavor somehow

Great capture. I think the window shoppers are the cherry they could have money burning holes in their pockets. The Pigeon is the only life paying attention to him..

This is amazing. It really defines what I've only heard about the economic divide in Vancouver.

Do not crop. That is an entirely different photo, much weaker, and doesn't represent or accurately represent the pathos of the scene. Your eye is good, your instinct solid, your composition flawless, your b&w rendering right on the money.

this is fantastic, besides the great b/w contrast...this picture truly is worth a thousand words...Great Job.

love this. no need for any cropping. She's in white and pops enough without the crop. Love the title. Very moving. all of it.

This is a brilliant shot, and brilliantly played into our consciousness. The man on his knees may have the best stories to tell, especially if this is his normal view of humanity. It is tempting to think he is ignored because acknowledging him would bring any of us a step closer to rage or insanity, but it's also possible he is just another blight along the walk, another small harassment, as irritating as dogshit on the sidewalk, and the people he solicits are tapped out, themselves penniless, after having given so generously at previous intersections. And if the woman in white, so prim, were on her knees, begging, imagine the commotion of support and concern! Have you fallen, are you injured, should I call for help? At the very least, can I help you stand up? Better than being a great shot, which it is, it's also an important one, laced with that razor blade of a title! Brilliant.
