Earth Hour

Earth Hour is an international event initiated by the World Wildlife Fund to enable the general public to take a stand and make a statement against global warming. The event occurs yearly on March 29th for the hour between 8:00 - 9:00pm, and urges everyone to turn off their lights and household electrical appliances to promote electricity conservation.
The event received a lot of publicity this year and was big in Toronto with a large number of highrises and downtown businesses taking part by turning off all their lights. Even the iconic CN Tower became dark for the hour. I took part with the candlelight vigil pictured here.
The total power demand was decreased by a pretty incredible 8.7% in Toronto during this hour - imagine the difference we could make if everyone committed to making this a weekly or even nightly event!
