Haiti is the most poverty stricken country in the Western hemisphere, where people cannot escape. This is the port of Gonaives, Haiti where the fishermen work to bring in fish for their families and to sale at the markets. This was a magical day when the sky was overcast and the light was soft. This picture reminds of an image during the Great Depression… the wind picked up and wurled dust and trash along the lunar landscape. The shanty town is over looked by a group of dark clouds bringing misfortune. The little boy and his sister’s interaction in the picture is so beautiful. Their skinny arms are both stretched out as the boy clutches her hand in his. Both faces are squinting to avoid the dust bowl winds.
