Self portrait. The Stuck series was inspired by the Storyville prostitutes in the photographs of E.J. Bellocq. Here Velia attempts to blur her physical identity while interacting with the medium of clear tape on a mirror. You can see a hint of the tripod in the lower left corner of this piece.Stuck is the first series in which the artist uses a mirror with an additional medium to create the entire surface composition. This mixed media approach will be explored further through out her career
