Flag of Understanding

Democracy is all about freedom and the right to live freely.
My image is I feel will be fairly universally recognised and is paraded proudly throughout major cities in the world in recognition of the gay and lesbian communities.

However, no matter what culture, what country, the gay and lesbian communities are at best only tolerated, never fully accepted. In other places ostracized, possibly with the penalty of imprisonment or death.

Those of you who are gay, especially openly so, with or without a partner, do you feel comfortable no matter where you go? Are you truly free to express yourself as you would like? No matter where, do you hug your partner, exchange kisses?

If we can't even recognise someone's differences as basic as this, how can we ever achieve world peace, freedom in the world?

So am I gay or straight? Does it really matter.....

In the story Freedom for the Free.

    we're all gay, we're all straight, we all . . . ARE.
Does the blue stripe growl at the green? Does the orange protest at being below the red? Maybe prisms would rather be tin or rubber or lumps of dark coal?
I always liked Catsro for being a revolutionary and a pop symbol of protest against imperialism, but when I heard his blood-curdling exhortation of his "fellow Cubans" to find homosexuality in the street and stamp it out with your boots, I became his implacable foe. If it's me and him on the lip of a cliff, he's going over. Likewaise the Dalai Lama. Didn't like his constant hints that he wished to return Tibet to 1959 feudalism, when slavery was institutionalized as a foundation of Tibetan society, but when I watched aghast as NPR baited him into outrageous anti-homosexuality, he, too, became a foe.
Thanks for the symbolic and timely colors, Gary. Perhaps they symbolise peace and tolerance, but sometimes you fight to ensure the right to fly the colors you wish.
Your essay is killer. Fighting words from a peaceful and gentle human being!!! Cheers, mighty-mate.

I can't believe how far along in our history we are, and still choose to expend energy to condemn love. Plain and simple.
    .
Without bothering to find out if the person in question is decent. Or Funny. Or likes Mad Max. Or Hummel figures. Or Ham Radio. Or Ketchup.

too easy and lazy and obsolete...

The only freedom we can recieve is from God. Everybody wants to be liberated whether they realize it or not. Gay or not once we realize that that's when we begin to live.

    It's easy.
All you need is love..." [Beatles, author John Lennon, recorded June 1967]
It truly is easy. I just hope that day comes soon. I am being stalked/harrassed for 2 years now by 2 women .. all due to ignorance and intolerance of this very nature. I love everyone. Life is too short to do otherwise. My picture "Looking Thru My Window" I took one afternoon 2 weeks ago: me watching them pace my sidewalk as I took shots of them. I think if you look at it now you'll see the Fear in my eyes. Cheers. Peace.

I was scanning through the democracy theme and noticed several photos of American flags. As I was scanning a thought came to me, "What if I submitted my photo of the gay flag on Castro and Market?". Just as I concluded the thought, I clicked the next button to view the next page and this photo jumped out at me! Great minds think alike. Well done!
