While beautiful sunsets are, well, beautiful, it's always important to remember what makes them so visually nice is really air impurities. So what makes a very nice sunset is really, in this case, the sun setting on a relatively light smog day in Los Angeles. "It's so clear tonight!" says the restaurant waitress. When we can figure out how to reduce air pollution so the sunsets in Newport Beach are similar to the those in rural coastal Oregon, we will have made progress.
