Great Horned Owl
Twilight in the forest of Kern River Preserve. This image take with Canon 20D and Tamron 300 mm zoom operating effectively at 480 mm, was a very tough capture. Not only did it blend magnifcently with the background, it was also late late afternoon with very little light remaining. In addition, in my efforts to "shoot" it, I tracked him to three different trees as he kept flying away as I approached. Didn't want to scare him; just take the picture. After shooting a burst of about ten, this being the only usable one, I tip-toed away leaving him here, probably for the night. I camped in the forest and could hear him throughout my awake hours.

What an awesome shot - beautiful owl. You should add this to the "Creatures" theme.

You are so lucky to have found this. I'm obsessed with wanting to photograph an owl in the wild. Great shot - love the eye!
