low tide on the gowanus
This is the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn at low tide. It was once a very active waterway that was very important to the city's commerce, but it was heavily polluted by industrial dumping and sewage. The canal is slowly getting cleaner and the aquatic life has come back. There is hope for this waterway, but there is a long way to go.
