Hunting snowflakes is a dangerous pastime. The possibility of blindness (searching the surface of the snow for that one freshly fallen flake that's catching the sun just right) and hypothermia is all-too real. Keeping snow off the lens and from melting and seeping through the cracks of the camera takes careful consideration as well... but the most difficult thing of all is the shivering. I was inspired by the stories of both buddhist monks who spend winter nights on high Himalayan mountain tops with no blankets or fire- controlling their bodies with their minds, and by tales of sharp-shooters who slow their heartbeats for the fraction of a second that it takes to pull the trigger so as to remain perfectly still. When hunting snowflakes, I am both sniper and siddartha.
