Signs of the Gilded Age

The Biltmore House, built in the late 1800s, lists over 175,000 sq. ft. of space and uses materials mined and/or crafted on site over seven years.

It is a testament to human willpower and the conflicting human traits of greed and environmental awareness (the grounds are meticulously maintained and are said to be environmentally friendly).

The site is a historic landmark and sits on an ~8,000 acre property in Asheville, NC.

Here, a tourist marvels at her size.

You got my vote, but isn't the Biltmore one of those places that requires permission before publishing photos of it? I was there recently and this is clearly one of the best photos I have seen of it.

RE: permissions, Jason -- I'm not sure... probably something to look into. Of course, that assumes this would be accepted by the editors ;-)
Thanks for the tip and comment!

Ah yes, being accepted. Something my work has not faired too well at here. ;-)
