Around 10pm every evening Calcutta’s homeless will dust off their cardboard, blankets or mosquito nets and claim a concrete rectangle to sleep on for the night. During the day this also happens but isn’t the same ritual. Rather you’ll see a random person, sans nighttime paraphernalia, laying on a sidewalk, stoop, or median, oblivious to life buzzing around them.
