I was here first.

I have been watching this heron for the last year, he usually flies away. This time I think he was trying to make a point. I shot this near my home, we are a new neighborhood still growing, with vacant streets everywhere. There is a small storm water basin where this guy as well as quite a few egrets like to kick it. This little basin has become the gathering spot for several species of ducks, long-billed dowitchers, red shouldered blackbirds, kites, vultures, red-tailed hawks. Not to mention the rabbits, raccoons and bats, I hear a couple of coyotes a night and saw one once. We have moved in but we know who was here first!

Oh my god! I took some photos just like this, a heron on a streetlight, last month in Japan. Mine had power lines in the shot though which is why I never posted it. Nice shot.
