Steam coming from the enormous cooling towers of Eggborough coal fired power station in Yorkshire, England.

This power station was built in the 1960s when the problems caused by carbon emissions were not fully appreciated.

The Chinese government is commissioning new versions of one of these at a rate of between one and two a week at the moment and the country is currently generating 80% of it's power from coal burnt in power stations just like this one.....a sobering thought as we head into an uncertain climatic future.
