A few years back an arsonist burned down the original Cedar Bridge in Winterset, Iowa. Old lumber, circa the time the orginal bridge was built, was used to rebuild Cedar. This is how it looks today. Of course the paint is pretty fresh.

Good shot, Yes I remember the year of the fire. I was shocked because as a Madisonian it felt like a personal loss. I live in the county and visit the bridges frequently. We had lost another bridge previously in the late 70's when I was a teen living in Des Moines also to arson, they never rebuilt the Mcbride bridge.
I was torn over the reconstruction of this bridge. The historic flavor is lost in my eyes, but it was interesting to see how it would have been built those many years ago, and by rebuilding we have managed not to loose one of our treasures.
