This is a photo of professional cockle fishermen working on the dangerous shifting sands of Morecambe bay in NW England. The Bay has a very fast and dangerous tide race that killed 23 workers in 2004 when they were cut off by the incoming tide as night fell.

I love how this is not just another nice photo, it tells stories about lives of hard working people.

Thanks...yes, they are very hard working in conditions that can be very difficult. Just after I had finished taking these photos there was one of heaviest rainstorms I've ever seen but these guys just kept working on with another 6 hours to go until the end of their shift.

Hi, yes it's part of a series of photos that I took of these guys...they are commercially collecting shellfish (cockles) from Morecambe Bay. It's a huge area covering about 300 km² and very dramatic in changeable weather like on this occasion!

Very nice photojournalistic shot here. I love the touch of yellow the workers add to the landscape, as well as the composition of the two. Lovely work.
