The Isle of Man Incinerator is notable for its unusual shape and design. The curves represent the rolling hills of the Island and the stack is designed to represent a Viking sail. It has a capacity to treat 60,000 tonnes of municipal waste in addition to clinical and animal waste. In order to accomplish this the facility actually incorporates two separate incinerators.
Also known as the 'Energy-from-Waste Plant' the incinerator aims to reduce the amount of waste buried at landfills at Point of Ayre and Archallagan whilst producing electricity for the island. Currently the plant is able to deal with all the burnable waste produced by the island on a day to day basis.
