No hikers no bikers. Is it safe to go through the wood in the wintertime? I think it is, but fact is, that a few accidents were reported in the last fwe years in Utrecht, The Netherlands. A girl was missing and a few woman were raped. So it looks like it is not without risk to take this kind of shortcuts in the dark.
