Katrina Trophy

An image from the first year of my ongoing Katrina project- Details of Loss. I have been doing a self-funded photojournalism project on Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans, following the rebuilding and rebranding of the city as it tries to recover and move on. This image is from a house in St. Bernard Parish, on of the hardest hit in New Orleans. It had been gutted, and curiously, some trophies remained in one of the young boy's windows. The project was started by me because of my love for the city's culture, food, music, and architecture. It is my way to try to help and give back something to people in need. Every year, I make a trade with a local Bed and Breakfast. I offer a full, detailed photographic essay of their inn and give them the photos for promotional purposes. I promote their establishment and refer them business. They house me in exchange, and give me guidance and insider info for my project. Everyone wins.
