Coney Island Mermaid Parade 2007. The final year of the parade as Coney Island (one of my favorite spots in NYC, where I live) is being torn down and developed into apartments. Picture taken while I was covering the parade as a sanitation truck with polished sides drove by. Making your surroundings "better" does not always make them better.
