In the West Bank town of Bethlehem, Israel's 24-foot-high Separation Barrier now blocks the path to Jerusalem. For the hundreds of Palestinian Bethlehemites who have permits to work in Israel, the morning commute can begin as early as 2:00 a.m., when the line at the wall starts to form. When the checkpoint opens at 5:00 a.m., the cold and wrestless line finally begins to move forward. This picture was taken at 5:20 a.m., about 90 minutes before sunrise.

Sariyah Qynn gave props (26 Jun 2009):

How the world can witness this and remain silent is truly tragic... and criminal... I was trapped in Bethlehem after the siege and enjoyed the hospitality of 7 Palestinian students... always room at the inn.
