I visited the Bonneville Salt Flats on the Utah/Nevada border a short while back and was blown away at the contrast of the white, barren landscape against the intense blue sky. It's really an incredible site to see.
The white ground looks like snow, but is actually miles of salt left over from a dried up lake bed. Historically, this lake used to cover much of Utah and came from a glacier which moved down from Canada at the end of the last ice age.
If you are ever in Utah, definitely check this out and don't forget your camera.
