This picture has the feel of a painting by Msagritte.

Very painterly. Wonderful color and light. I wish you had given that window a wipe before shooting. There is such enticing clarity to the DOF and light- the streaks on the window are a distraction. I think Photoshop has a "Windex" tool.

Fantastic still life - the lighting makes it so outstanding!

Thank you all! Jon I like the streaks on the window because they give the image a bit of "grit" to balance the painterly look. But I take your point that the image might work better without them, and I'll definitely try to make a version like that to check out the result. I appreciate the suggestion!

I thought the streaks were bird poop. Hence the birds eye view. Maybe just my distorted reality. It is a great picture.

Thank you Ronnie, Emma, Federic and Rachel! Dan, I've loved Abell's work for years, and I'm honored by that comparison. And Llorenç, thank you for introducing me to Wolfgang Tillmans, I did'nt know his work and I'm honored by that comparison too. Finally, thank you Amanda and yes - the streaks are indeed bird (seagull) poop!

Actually, Alexis, I kept looking at the photo over and over again, trying to figure out what it was I was seeing (the streaks). Anything that causes you to look and look and look again can't be bad. It is like a photo my husband took of a windsurfer at sunset with him sailing through the trail of the sunlight. He also had some very faint power lines and towers in the background. I had people tell me we should have removed the lines. But we like the effect of wind power, sun power, and electric power.

This is fantastic and just the kind of "slice of life" image I love. Feel like I have been in this room myself. Great capture!

It feels very "moment of calm before the storm". -

I don't know if it fits or not with the theme, but for sure I know that this is a very good one, and I do agree with Aaron "a Veermer painting"

If only I could vote twice. I dig the poop on the windows, it adds a blast of reality to an image of perfection. The light play on the table is revealing as well. Sublime perfection.

This is dark and light all at the same time. There's so much I like about it. The composition like a painting is one of them. I came to this because of Aaron Schwartz decision to leave. This photo carries such symbolism to me. An apple for all the enjoyment JPG is, an ashtray for my cigarettes as I process this loss, the dark emptiness of the vista expresses my sadness, looking through a window is the distance at which we enjoy each other at this community. I too would love a bottle of wine and some of our choice community to share it with. As I enjoyed this image I found myself, a 35 year old woman, sucking my thumb - which I never do! Your image has moved me to deep thought. Well done Alexis.
