This guy was one of several hundreds devotees in thaipusam festival - an annual Hindu festival - in Singapore.
Several hundred devotees spear their cheeks and tongus with long, shiny steel rods - often a metre long - and pierce their chests and backs with small, hook-like needles in penance.
